Taking responsibility for past and ongoing harms

Hello, after a long period of outward silence, but inner thinking, reflecting, processing, talking and changing. We are writing as the Boat Collective’s most recent coordination team, who initiated a community accountability process around the collective and Art Centre in mid September 2025. The process - facilitated by two Athens-based transformative justice facilitators - is based on transformative justice values, which centre accountability, healing and transformation in community while avoiding additional punishment and the reproduction of harm (we invite you to also read the facilitators’ statement below).
In mid June 2025, the coordination team at the time decided to temporarily close the Art Centre after removing a cofounder from a position of leadership and excluding him from the collective. These decisions came right after he was publicly called out by another cofounder of the collective for sexual violence and other abusive behaviours during their intimate partner relationship. The decision, however, was based on a range of accumulated experiences of harm and abusive behaviours, especially within intimate-partner relationships involving the cofounder who was removed. Harmful dynamics in the organisational culture of the collective were another reason for the decision, having led repeatedly to burnout and the indirect exclusion of certain positionalities and persons - including some who cofounded the space. The patterns and severity of these harmful behaviours became clear to us in the aftermath of the public posts, during many conversations with people of the community, then resulting in the decision of exclusion and temporary closure. These decisions, at the time, felt like the only ones we could responsibly make in order to protect the community - including ourselves - from (more) harm.
While we still believe the decision to remove the cofounder from a position of leadership was a necessary response to these realities, we are now in a process of taking responsibility and accountability for the ways in which the decisions were taken. We acknowledge that there are ways in which we could have prevented (or at least mitigated) some of the unintended, yet harmful, impacts of our decisions. In particular, we recognise that our silence since June has enabled the spreading of harmful rumours and narratives about people having experienced harm, people having done harm, as well as the space and collective as a whole. We really wish we had been in the position to share even a short statement earlier, and we do apologise for our silence. We took the time we felt was needed for ourselves and for the process to reach a point where we could write a more informed statement, but did not adequately account for the impact this silence would have on others—and for this, we apologise. After more than five months of being in this process, this message is our attempt to be open, transparent and (self)accountable about our reality since June, as we seek ways to respond to harms experienced around the Boat, some of which have been ongoing for years, and to prevent additional harm.
Not as an excuse, but rather for your understanding of the process, we would like to offer a rough timeline of the past eight months. Over the summer, we took time to gain perspective, and allow ourselves some much-needed rest after a very demanding period. At the same time, we began searching for process facilitators. After returning in September, we met with several people and ultimately decided to work with the two transformative justice practitioners mentioned above, with whom we engaged in several hours-long introductory sessions. We then began inviting others into the process, intentionally allowing everyone the time needed to make an informed decision about their participation. The facilitators subsequently met with each person individually - sometimes more than once - to give space to all individual experiences. In December, these efforts culminated in a first group circle session. For some participants, this was the first time seeing each other in years; others had never met before. As a result, it took time for everyone to get comfortable with each other, especially engaging with such deep and heavy topics and feelings. Since then, we have held three more sessions of the broader group and have two more scheduled for later this month. In these meetings, we held space for our individual and collective failures throughout the years of the Boat, including the ways our silences enabled harm, abuse and violence.
The process does not focus exclusively on the cofounder’s harmful actions, but is an invitation to all of us to reflect on our collective responsibility for not having addressed the personal and structural harms earlier and more effectively and for normalising and numbing to harm, violence and unsafety in the space. This process has enabled us to reflect and take responsibility for the ways in which our individual silences are rooted in structural problems and how we were unable to address and mitigate them within the collective. We are learning about the ways our avoidance of accountability was part of broader unexamined power dynamics in the space, including behaviours rooted in saviourism and white supremacy culture. The previous avoidance then later resulted in the sudden and strong decision to exclude the cofounder who caused harm, and which ultimately caused him and us further harm, and undermined possibilities for collective care and shared responsibility, which are part of the values the space sought to uphold.
We acknowledge that we failed to adequately address and take responsibility as a collective for the harms caused both in and by intimate partner relationships between members of the community in general. In this process, we have been reflecting on the ways that intimate partner relationships so often impact solidarity spaces negatively - a pattern that calls for collective reflection and we stand open to learning from and engaging with ideas, experiences, and approaches from the wider community.
We have also been reflecting on how the space - which was founded by a group of migrants as a counter-project to the NGO landscape, in which they had often felt unseen and instrumentalized both as beneficiaries and as staff - gradually experienced a shift in composition. More and more of the original members left the collective and moved on, while new people joining the coordination team were mostly white European women and queers. We are considering the intersections between the harmful dynamics of un/privilege and power that were co-constructed within the collective and the broader realities and culture of whiteness and saviourism in migrant solidarity spaces and structures in Athens and elsewhere, especially in the European context.
We are not assigning guilt to ourselves or others. This process is our (re)commitment to (self)accountability as a form of care and support that we all need from each other and in our broader communities. We wish for those who caused harm to reflect on and change harmful behaviours and for all of us to be supported in taking accountability for our individual and collective actions. We do not wish for anyone to be subject to (more) harm neither through isolation nor stigmatisation, which often block genuine accountability on both sides. We strongly support the facilitators’ call to all Athens-based and other communities to take responsibility and stop the spreading of rumours and narratives that undermine our struggles for accountability, healing and transformation in community and as a form of care (as discussed in the facilitators statement).
Holding immense grief around the realisations brought to us by this process in the past months, we have also aimed to collectively decide on the fate of the group and space. We have been trying to make these decisions with care and responsibility. Realising earlier in the process that the Boat collective is sunsetting, the group considered whether, how and by whom the Art Centre could be reopened in a way that centres the values of safety and accountability and creates structures to responsibly and effectively prevent and respond to harm and violence. After several months of group meetings and discussion it has become clear that the space will not be reopened by the Boat collective, which is in the process of sunsetting.
Being aware that we have lost many valuable members of our community throughout this difficult journey, we hope this moment of the process can be a point for some to reengage, to share any griefs and disappointments they might be holding, as well as to be open to those of others. So far the process has been successful to reconnect many of us and to bring about more genuine understanding and empathy for one another’s experiences, that we already thought was lost in the intensity of feelings of hurt and dismissal.
So as the process continues, we are (re)inviting all individuals in and around the Boat Collective and Art Centre to reach out to us and come into exchange and conversation with us and the process facilitators—to share and hold your concerns, fears, hopes and any questions or feedback.

A statement from the facilitators

We are writing as the facilitators of the community accountability process around the Boat Collective and Art Centre—offering our facilitation as a form of mutual aid which we organise around as part of the collective qima ~ queer/ing mutual aid athens (@qima_ath). In September, we were invited to co-facilitate and co-create the values, scope and purpose of the process with the coordination team at the time, grounded in values of abolition feminism and transformative justice which centre care, healing and transformation for those who experience and those who cause harm, as well as their broader communities.
As facilitators, we sought to facilitate a process that centres care for the safety of those who have joined the process and the community around the Boat, including by preventing the reproduction of harm through punishment, stigmatisation and silencing. With a commitment to being self-accountable (including around our own positionalities), we have accompanied those who are and were involved in the collective and space over the years to take accountability, learn from the harm, abuse and violence that took place (often with no structures to enable a collective response) and to move towards transforming the conditions that caused and enabled it.
These values and aims have been the foundation of the process as it was co-created since mid September with the most recent Boat coordination team, whose statement will soon be available on the Boat’s website. We have also invited a further statement from the process group and the cofounder who was excluded from the collective, and hope that they are forthcoming. While we are intentionally closing a first phase of the process later this month, also in recognition of the group’s capacities, we will continue to support those who have been part of it, including in their efforts to write the statements and in convening a meeting with the Boat community to be scheduled in March.

Since the beginning of the process, we have been reaching out and connecting with many individuals who have been part of the founding, building and co-creating teams of the Boat collective and community—including the Boat’s cofounder who was removed from his position of leadership in June. With many of them, we had 1-1 conversations about their experiences in the collective and space, and about half of those (about 14 people) have chosen to commit to this community accountability process. Following numerous preparatory meetings with the coordination team and some 30 one-on-one meetings and exchanges, in early December 2025, we held a first group circle to connect and share experiences in and perspectives on the space over the years, as part of a series of six group meetings that is continuing throughout January and February 2026. We also held five meetings with the cofounder who was removed from the collective, including one with a sub-group of the process group.
Although, for different reasons, not all of those who experienced abusive behaviour in intimate partner relationships with the cofounder who was removed have joined the process, we have sought to hold their experiences of harm, and especially of being dismissed by the collective when seeking to redress it. Since certain experiences of harm were not represented amidst us, however, the scope and purpose of the process centred on the individual and collective responsibilities of the coordination teams of the space and their failures to respond to hurt, harm and violence. It is important for us to clarify that the inability to respond to harm was not unique to the abuse that resulted from intimate partnerships in the space—but that this kind of intense hurt can also come with radical friendships and love relationships and intimacies that we hope to grow and nurture in movement spaces oriented towards collective care and transformation (and that importantly distinguish them from work places and organisations like charities and NGOs).
We are grateful for the ways that the group has contributed to the process—how each person has shown up, for themselves and each other, and how the space we co-created was care-full for/about certain experiences, and how these meetings have and continue to ripple into moments and actions of repair and reconnection. This includes cofounders of the Boat who, despite years of disconnect from the space, chose to contribute to the process with their invaluable and precious perspectives on the realities of certain behaviours / dynamics that they experienced in the early years of the space and that were not known to most others who came to the Art Centre at a later stage. This also includes the appreciation by many that coming together around such complex multi-year realities of harm and abuse is seldom made possible in solidarity structures and activism spaces, in Athens and elsewhere.
We have sought to invite each person to recognise their privileges, power and positionalities—including the many ways that we reproduce white supremacy culture and saviourism, ‘even’ in a group that sought to counter NGO cultures—and how these may have informed their in/actions during their time in the Art Centre. The process made and held space for un/learning and for reorienting towards collective and self-accountability for both personal and structural forms of gendered and sexualised violence that were enabled and normalised by the group and in the space over the years. We co-created and offered self-reflection questions and prompts to the group, and to the cofounder who was excluded, and held space for sharing around acknowledgements of (and apologies for) harm, personal and collective failures, and commitments to change.
Based on feedback from the process group, it feels that the group has managed to fulfil the purpose and objectives of this process as they have been conceived. We held space for complexity and complicity and invited each other to navigate them with humility and self-accountability. We brought a systemic lens onto the power and privilege dynamics that played out in the collective and space, and also in the broader Athens-based activist communities, especially with the impacts of the reality that ensued since the cofounder’s call out and exclusion in the past eight months.

Since the Art Centre was temporarily closed, many rumours, narratives and judgments about the space and its members have been spreading in far-reaching ways amongst different communities in Athens and beyond, including other migrant solidarity groups and collectives who were/are in relationship with the space or those part of it. These narratives have perpetuated hurt and harm in different ways, including by (further) isolating and silencing individuals who experienced harm in the space—including the violence of having their experiences of abuse and violence being denied, dismissed and enabled by the silences and numbness of others in the space.
This process has been a precious opportunity to reflect on and care for the fear many of us have of causing harm and of hurting each other, which is often what numbs us to violence and leads to the invisibilisation of harm. This reality is reinforced by the absence of self-organised systems for responding to harm, abuse and violence in ways that are restorative and that keep us safe, including by protecting us from the harms of labeling, stigmatisation and punitive forms of ‘justice’ that often perpetuate harm.
The uncaring rumours and narratives around the space have also significantly impacted and, in some cases, harmed those who caused harm. This includes, foremost, the cofounder who was stigmatised as an ‘abuser’ that should be cancelled, punished and isolated. This was after he was excluded from the collective in June 2025—which, significantly, is different from a decision to remove a person in such circumstances from a position of leadership temporarily and subject to a community accountability process. In order to invite him into accountability, the cofounder who was excluded has been part of this process: we met with him several times, and facilitated one meeting with a sub-group of those involved in the process (a couple of whom have tried to support him throughout and hope to accompany him in writing a statement).
As facilitators, we believe that supporting persons who cause harm to take responsibility for it and be accountable for their behaviours, including by working towards changing them, is a way of caring for those who experienced harm, as part of our individual and collective healing and transformation. To support this process and each other, we ask Athens-based and other communities to bring care to this process and moment by taking any measures they can to de-escalate the ongoing harms of stigmatisation, exclusion and punishment, either of those who caused and experienced harm or of others linked with the collective or space. This is particularly relevant to those who have held onto and shared rumours and narratives about the recent developments and in doing so contributed to the isolation of various members of Athens-based migrant solidarity communities and blocked possibilities for genuine accountability by those who have caused harm.
This is also our (re)invitation as facilitators to all those who may have chosen not to take part in the process, or those who have strong views about it, to be curious and kind with a group who is trying otherwise: we are open to self-accountably come into conversation with you about the process and warmly invite you to share your feedback with us so that we can learn and grow together.
Given the limited opportunities we get to be with the shatters, loss and pain we so often experience when trying to respond to violence and engage in conflict, especially in social movements and solidarity spaces, it has been precious and tender for all of us to come together around this moment in ways that centre (self)accountability, healing and repair. For many, this has and continues to be a very heavy time, full of heartbreak and grief for what was not possible and for what is ending and, for many, lost.

As part of the process, we have also held space for discussions about the fate of the collective and, separately, the space—considering, until this point, different options of a handover and opening by a different group. The most time-sensitive dimension of this process was considering whether and how to reopen the space in a responsible and value-aligned way.
The process has sought to find ways for the group to meet this moment while acknowledging that many of those part of the group meetings are—for different reasons—(re)connecting to each other after some (or for the first) time and that most are not in a position to (re)establish links and commitments with the space. Indeed, since most members of the coordination team left the space after taking the June decisions and many of the others who joined the process have been disconnected from the core group for months or even years, the group process has not come up with a new constellation that could (re)open the space.
At this point of this process, it is clear that the group has recognised and accepted—with a sense of responsibility and a heavy heart—that the Boat collective will not be reopening. It is as yet not fully clear if another (constellation of) group(s) might take over the physical space and open it as a centre for arts-based activities. As part of the process, the group invited proposals for careful and responsible ways for reopening the Art Centre (not as the Boat) and was open to receiving and discussing them with a timeline of end February—which is also when the current funds for renting the space would run out. However, no proposals were brought to the group. As facilitators, upon request from one of the members of the coordination team, we had one conversation with a facilitator who had offered to support a group in reopening, agreeing that a reopening of the space would need to be aligned with and seek to integrate learnings from the ongoing process.

Recognising and honouring the rage and grief many have been holding in these past months—and that some have for years—we ask that we all lean into our responsibilities and support this (long-term and non-linear) process of recognising, reflecting and learning from the ways in which we caused and contributed to violence and harm, while inviting collective and self-accountability and moving towards healing and transformation.

Από τον ρόλο μας ως υποστηρικτά, θελήσαμε να οργανώσουμε μια διαδικασία που
δίνει σημασία στην ασφάλεια αυτών που συμμετέχουν σε αυτήν και την κοινότητα
γύρω από το the Boat, μέσω μεταξύ άλλων της αποφυγής αναπαραγωγής του
πληγώματος και της βλάβης μέσα από την τιμωρία, τον στιγματισμό και την

του the Boat, της οποίας το κείμενο θα είναι σύντομα διαθέσιμο στην ιστοσελίδα του.
Έχουμε επίσης απευθύνει κάλεσμα για μία περαιτέρω δήλωση από την ομάδα της
διαδικασίας, καθώς και από τον συνδημιουργό ο οποίος βρίσκεται εκτός της
συλλογικότητας πλέον, και ελπίζουμε σύντομα αυτές να δημοσιευτούν. Αν και

Από την αρχή της διαδικασίας, έχουμε επικοινωνήσει και συνδεθεί με πολλά άτομα
που έχουν συμμετάσχει στην ίδρυση, την οικοδόμηση και τη συν-δημιουργία των
ομάδων του συλλογικότητας και της ευρύτερης κοινότητας του the Boat,
συμπεριλαμβανομένου του συνιδρυτή του the Boat που απομακρύνθηκε από τη θέση
ηγεσίας του τον Ιούνιο. Με πολλά από αυτά τα άτομα, είχαμε ατομικές συνομιλίες

ατομικές συναντήσεις και αλληλεπιδράσεις, στις αρχές του Δεκεμβρίου του 2025,
οργανώσαμε έναν πρώτο ομαδικό κύκλο για να συνδεθούμε και να μοιραστούμε
εμπειρίες και οπτικές σχετικά με τον χώρο ανά τα χρόνια, ως μέρος μιας σειράς έξι
συναντήσεων ομάδας, οι οποίες συνεχίστηκαν από τον Ιανουάριο έως τον Φεβρουάριο
του 2026. Πραγματοποιήσαμε επίσης πέντε συναντήσεις με τον συνιδρυτή που
απομακρύνθηκε από τη συλλογικότητα, συμπεριλαμβανομένης μιας συνάντησης με
μια υποομάδα της ομάδας της διαδικασίας.
Αν και, για διάφορους λόγους, δεν συμμετείχαν στη διαδικασία όλα όσα υπέστησαν
κακοποιητική συμπεριφορά στις στενές σχέσεις τους με τον συνιδρυτή που
απομακρύνθηκε, προσπαθήσαμε να αναγνωρίσουμε και να λάβουμε υπόψη τις
εμπειρίες τους κακοποίησης και, ειδικότερα, την εμπειρία απόρριψής τους από την
συλλογικότητα, όταν προσπάθησαν να αποκαταστήσουν αυτή την κακοποίηση.
Ωστόσο, δεδομένου ότι ορισμένες εμπειρίες πληγώματος και βλάβης δεν
εκπροσωπούνταν ανάμεσά μας, το εύρος και ο σκοπός της διαδικασίας
επικεντρώθηκαν στις ατομικές και συλλογικές ευθύνες των συντονιστικών ομάδων
του χώρου και στην αποτυχία τους να ανταποκριθούν στον πόνο, τη βλάβη και τη βία.
Είναι σημαντικό για εμάς να διευκρινίσουμε ότι η αδυναμία ανταπόκρισης στη βλάβη
δεν περιοριζόταν μόνο στην κακοποίηση που προέκυψε από τις στενές σχέσεις στον
χώρο, αλλά ότι αυτό το είδος έντονου πόνου μπορεί επίσης να συνοδεύει τις
ριζοσπαστικές φιλίες, τις ερωτικές σχέσεις και τις στενές σχέσεις που ελπίζουμε να
αναπτύσσουμε και να καλλιεργούμε σε κινηματικούς χώρους προσανατολισμένους
στη συλλογική φροντίδα και τη μεταμόρφωση (και που είναι σημαντικό να
διακρίνονται από χώρους εργασίας και οργανισμούς όπως φιλανθρωπικά ιδρύματα
και ΜΚΟ).
Είμαστε ευγνώμονα για τους τρόπους με τους οποίους η ομάδα συνέβαλε στη
διαδικασία- για τον τρόπο με τον οποίο κάθε άτομο ήταν παρόν, για το εαυτό του και
για τα άλλα άτομα, και για τον τρόπο με τον οποίο ο χώρος που συνδιαμορφώσαμε
ήταν φροντιστικός προς/με ορισμένες εμπειρίες, και για τον τρόπο με τον οποίο αυτές
οι συναντήσεις έχουν και συνεχίζουν να έχουν αντίκτυπο σε στιγμές και ενέργειες
επανόρθωσης και επανασύνδεσης. Αυτό περιλαμβάνει και συνιδρυτά του the Boat, τα
οποία παρά τα χρόνια αποσύνδεσης από τον χώρο, επέλεξαν να συνεισφέρουν στη
διαδικασία με τις ανεκτίμητες και πολύτιμες οπτικές τους σχετικά με τις
πραγματικότητες ορισμένων συμπεριφορών/δυναμικών που βίωσαν στα πρώτα
χρόνια του χώρου και που δεν ήταν γνωστές στα περισσότερα άλλα άτομα που ήρθαν
στο Κέντρο Τέχνης (Art Centre) σε μεταγενέστερο στάδιο. Αυτό περιλαμβάνει επίσης
την αναγνώριση και εκτίμηση από πολλά άτομα ότι το να συναντιόμαστε γύρω από
τόσο πολύπλοκες πολυετείς πραγματικότητες βλάβης και κακοποίησης σπάνια είναι
εφικτό σε δομές αλληλεγγύης και χώρους ακτιβισμού, στην Αθήνα και αλλού.
Προσπαθήσαμε να προσκαλέσουμε κάθε άτομο να αναγνωρίσει τα προνόμια, την
εξουσία και τη θεσιακότητά του- συμπεριλαμβανομένων των πολλών τρόπων με τους
οποίους αναπαράγουμε την κουλτούρα της λευκής υπεροχής και του λευκού σωτήρα
(white saviourism), «ακόμη και» σε μια ομάδα που επιδίωκε να αντισταθεί στις
κουλτούρες των ΜΚΟ- και πώς αυτά μπορεί να έχουν επηρεάσει τις ενέργειες ή την
αδράνειά του κατά τη διάρκεια της παραμονής τους στο Κέντρο Τέχνης. Η διαδικασία
δημιούργησε και διατήρησε έναν χώρο για τ0 ξε-μάθημα και τον
επαναπροσανατολισμό προς τη συλλογική και ατομική ευθύνη τόσο για τις
προσωπικές όσο και για τις δομικές μορφές έμφυλης και σεξουαλικής
(σεξουαλικοποιημένης) βίας που επιτρέπονταν και κανονικοποιούνταν από την ομάδα
και στον χώρο όλα αυτά τα χρόνια. Συν-διαμορφώσαμε και προτείναμε ερωτήματα
και ερεθίσματα αυτοστοχασμού στην ομάδα και στον συνιδρυτή που είχε αποκλειστεί,
και δημιουργήσαμε ένα χώρο για μοίρασμα γύρω από αναγνωρίσεις (και απολογίες)
βλάβης, προσωπικών και συλλογικών αποτυχιών, καθώς και δεσμεύσεων για αλλαγή.
Με βάση τα σχόλια της ομάδας της διαδικασίας, φαίνεται ότι η ομάδα κατάφερε να
εκπληρώσει τον σκοπό και τους στόχους αυτής της διαδικασίας, όπως είχαν
σχεδιαστεί. Δημιουργήσαμε χώρο για πολυπλοκότητα και αναγνώριση του πλέγματος
της συνενοχής4 και παροτρύναμε το ένα τον άλλο να τα διαχειριστούμε με
ταπεινότητα και αυτοευθύνη. Εφαρμόσαμε μια συστημική προσέγγιση στις δυναμικές
εξουσίας και προνομίων που έλαβαν χώρα στη συλλογικότητα και στο χώρο, αλλά και
ως προς τις ευρύτερες ακτιβιστικές κοινότητες της Αθήνας, ειδικά ως προς τις
επιπτώσεις της κατάστασης που προέκυψε τους τελευταίους οκτώ μήνες, μετά την
καταγγελία και τον αποκλεισμό του συνιδρυτή.

Από τη στιγμή που το Κέντρο Τέχνης έκλεισε προσωρινά, πολλές φήμες, αφηγήσεις
και επικρίσεις σχετικά με τον χώρο και τα μέλη του έχουν διαδοθεί ευρέως σε
διάφορες κοινότητες στην Αθήνα και πέρα από αυτήν, συμπεριλαμβανομένων άλλων
ομάδων και συλλογικοτήτων αλληλεγγύης προς μεταναστά που είχαν/έχουν σχέση με
τον χώρο ή με μέλη του. Αυτές οι αφηγήσεις έχουν συμβάλει στη συντήρηση του πόνου
και της βλάβης με διάφορους τρόπους, μεταξύ άλλων με την (περαιτέρω) απομόνωση
και αποσιώπηση των ατόμων που υπέστησαν βλάβη στον χώρο-
συμπεριλαμβανομένης της βίας που υπέστησαν όταν οι εμπειρίες κακοποίησης και
βίας τους παραβλέφθηκαν, απορρίφθηκαν ή διευκολύνθηκαν από τη σιωπή ή την
μουδιασμένη αντίδραση άλλων στον χώρο.
Αυτή η διαδικασία αποτέλεσε μια πολύτιμη ευκαιρία για να αναστοχαστούμε και να
φροντίσουμε τον φόβο που πολλά από εμάς έχουμε μήπως προκαλέσουμε βλάβη και
πληγώσουμε το ένα το άλλο, κάτι που συχνά μας κάνει να μην μπορούμε να
αντιδράσουμε στη βία και οδηγεί στην αόρατοποίηση της βλάβης. Αυτή η
πραγματικότητα ενισχύεται από την απουσία αυτοοργανωμένων συστημάτων
απάντησης στη βλάβη και το πλήγωμα, την κακοποίηση και τη βία με τρόπους
αποκαταστατικούς, που μας κρατούν ασφαλή, μεταξύ άλλων προστατεύοντάς μας από
τις βλάβες που δημιουργούν οι ταμπέλες, ο στιγματισμός και οι τιμωρητικές μορφές
«δικαιοσύνης» που συχνά συντηρούν τη βλάβη.
Οι χωρίς την αναγκαία φροντίδα φήμες και οι αφηγήσεις γύρω από τον χώρο έχουν
επίσης επηρεάσει σημαντικά και, σε ορισμένες περιπτώσεις, βλάψει τα άτομα που
προκάλεσαν βλάβη. Αυτό περιλαμβάνει, πρωτίστως, τον συνιδρυτή που στιγματίστηκε
ως «κακοποιητής» που πρέπει να ακυρωθεί (cancel), να τιμωρηθεί και να απομονωθεί.
Αυτό συνέβη μετά την απομάκρυνσή του από τη συλλογικότητα τον Ιούνιο του 2025-
η οποία είναι σημαντικό ότι διαφέρει από την απόφαση να απομακρυνθεί προσωρινά
ένα άτομο από θέση ηγεσίας σε τέτοιες περιστάσεις και να υποβληθεί σε διαδικασία
λογοδοσίας από την κοινότητα. Προκειμένου να τον καλέσουμε να λάβει αυτοευθύνη,
ο συνιδρυτής που αποκλείστηκε συμμετείχε σε αυτή τη διαδικασία: τον συναντήσαμε
αρκετές φορές, και διευκολύναμε μια συνάντηση με μια υποομάδα ατόμων που
συμμετείχαν στη διαδικασία (μερικά από τα οποία προσπάθησαν να τον υποστηρίξουν

κακοποίηση και τη βία, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των τρόπων με τους οποίους η βλάβη μπορεί να
αγνοηθεί ή να παραβλεφθεί και ως αποτέλεσμα, επίσης, να κανονικοποιηθεί.
καθ' όλη τη διάρκεια και ελπίζουν να τον συνοδεύσουν στη σύνταξη μιας (ενός
κειμένου) δήλωσης).
Ως υποστηρικτά, πιστεύουμε ότι το να υποστηρίζουμε τα άτομα που προκαλούν την
βλάβη και το πλήγωμα να αναλάβουν την ευθύνη για τις πράξεις τους και να μιλήσουν
για τη συμπεριφορά τους, μεταξύ άλλων προσπαθώντας να την αλλάξουν, είναι ένας
τρόπος να φροντίσουμε όσα έχουν υποστεί βλάβη, ως μέρος της ατομικής και
συλλογικής μας θεραπείας και μεταμόρφωσης. Για να υποστηρίξουμε αυτή τη
διαδικασία και να υποστηρίξουμε το ένα το άλλο, ζητάμε από τις κοινότητες της
Αθήνας και άλλες κοινότητες να φροντίσουν αυτή τη διαδικασία και αυτή τη στιγμή,
λαμβάνοντας όλα τα μέτρα που μπορούν για να μειώσουν τις συνεχιζόμενες βλάβες
του στιγματισμού, του αποκλεισμού και της τιμωρίας, είτε αυτών που προκάλεσαν και
υπέστησαν βλάβη είτε άλλων που συνδέονται με τη συλλογικότητα ή τον χώρο. Αυτό
ισχύει ιδιαίτερα για όσα άτομα διατήρησαν και μοιράστηκαν φήμες και αφηγήσεις
σχετικά με τις πρόσφατες εξελίξεις και με αυτόν τον τρόπο συνέβαλαν στην
απομόνωση διαφόρων μελών των κοινοτήτων αλληλεγγύης προς μεταναστά που
εδρεύουν στην Αθήνα και εμπόδισαν τις δυνατότητες πραγματικής έκφρασης
αυτοευθύνης από όσα άτομα προκάλεσαν βλάβη.
Αυτή είναι και η (εκ νέου) πρόσκλησή μας ως υποστηρικτά της διαδικασίας προς όλα
όσα μπορεί να έχουν επιλέξει να μην συμμετάσχουν στη διαδικασία ή όσα έχουν πολύ
συγκεκριμένες απόψεις σχετικά με αυτήν, να δείξουν περιέργεια και όσο το δυνατόν
ήπια στάση προς μια ομάδα που προσπαθεί να κάνει κάτι διαφορετικό: είμαστε
ανοιχτά να συζητήσουμε μαζί σας για τη διαδικασία με διάθεση αυτοευθύνης (;) και
σας προσκαλούμε θερμά να μοιραστείτε μαζί μας τα σχόλιά σας, ώστε να μάθουμε και
να εξελιχθούμε μαζί.
Δεδομένων των περιορισμένων ευκαιριών που έχουμε να υπάρξουμε με τα κομμάτια,
την απώλεια και τον πόνο που τόσο συχνά βιώνουμε όταν προσπαθούμε να
ανταποκριθούμε στη βία και να εμπλακούμε σε συγκρούσεις, ειδικά σε κοινωνικά
κινήματα και χώρους αλληλεγγύης, ήταν πολύτιμη κίνηση τρυφερότητας για όλα μας
να συγκεντρωθούμε γύρω από αυτή τη στιγμή με τρόπους που εστιάζουν στην
(αυτο)ευθύνη, τη θεραπεία και την αποκατάσταση. Για πολλά άτομα, αυτή ήταν και
συνεχίζει να είναι μια πολύ δύσκολη περίοδος, γεμάτη θλίψη και θρήνο για ό,τι δεν
ήταν δυνατό και για ό,τι τελειώνει και, για πολλά άτομα, πλέον χάθηκε.

Στο πλαίσιο αυτής της διαδικασίας, πραγματοποιήσαμε επίσης συζητήσεις σχετικά με
το μέλλον της συλλογικότητας και, ξεχωριστά, του ίδιου του χώρου, εξετάζοντας μέχρι
στιγμής διάφορες επιλογές για την παράδοση και το άνοιγμα του χώρου από μια
διαφορετική ομάδα. Το πιο επείγον ζήτημα αυτής της διαδικασίας ήταν να
αποφασιστεί αν και πώς θα μπορούσε να ξανανοίξει ο χώρος με υπεύθυνο τρόπο και
σε συμφωνία με συγκεκριμένες αξίες.
Η διαδικασία είχε ως στόχο να βρει τρόπους για να ανταποκριθεί η ομάδα σε αυτή τη
συγκυρία, αναγνωρίζοντας παράλληλα ότι πολλά από τα συμμετέχοντα στις
συναντήσεις της ομάδας- για διαφορετικούς λόγους- (επανα)συνδέονται μεταξύ τους
μετά από κάποιο χρονικό διάστημα (ή για πρώτη φορά) και ότι τα περισσότερα δεν
είναι σε θέση να (επανα)δημιουργήσουν δεσμούς και δεσμεύσεις με τον χώρο.
Πράγματι, δεδομένου ότι τα περισσότερα μέλη της ομάδας συντονισμού
εγκατέλειψαν τον χώρο μετά τη λήψη των αποφάσεων του Ιουνίου και πολλά από τα
άλλα μέλη που συμμετείχαν στη διαδικασία έχουν αποσυνδεθεί από την κεντρική
ομάδα για μήνες ή ακόμη και χρόνια, η ομαδική διαδικασία δεν έχει καταλήξει σε μια
νέα σύνθεση που θα μπορούσε να (επαν)ανοίξει τον χώρο.
Σε αυτό το στάδιο της διαδικασίας, είναι σαφές ότι η ομάδα έχει αναγνωρίσει και
αποδεχτεί- με αίσθημα ευθύνης και βαριά καρδιά- ότι η συλλογικότητα the Boat δεν
θα ξανανοίξει. Δεν είναι ακόμη απολύτως σαφές αν κάποια άλλη ομάδα (ή ομάδες) θα
αναλάβει τον χώρο και θα τον ανοίξει ως κέντρο για καλλιτεχνικού τύπου
δραστηριότητες. Στο πλαίσιο της διαδικασίας, η ομάδα ζήτησε προτάσεις για
προσεκτικούς και υπεύθυνους τρόπους επαναλειτουργίας του Κέντρου Τέχνης (όχι ως
the Boat) και ήταν ανοιχτή να τις λάβει και να τις συζητήσει με προθεσμία τα τέλη
Φεβρουαρίου- οπότε και θα εξαντληθούν τα τρέχοντα κεφάλαια για την ενοικίαση του
χώρου. Ωστόσο, δεν υποβλήθηκαν προτάσεις στην ομάδα. Ως υποστηρικτά αυτής της
διαδικασίας, κατόπιν αιτήματος ενός από τα μέλη της συντονιστικής ομάδας, είχαμε
μια συζήτηση με ένα άλλο υποστηρικτό τέτοιων διεργασιών που είχε προσφερθεί να
υποστηρίξει μια ομάδα στην επαναλειτουργία, συμφωνώντας ότι ένα ενδεχόμενο
άνοιγμα του χώρου θα πρέπει να ευθυγραμμιστεί με και να επιδιώξει να ενσωματώσει
τα διδάγματα από την εν εξελίξει διαδικασία.

Αναγνωρίζοντας και τιμώντας την οργή και τη θλίψη/θρήνο/πένθος που πολλά άτομα
έχουν κρατήσει μέσα τους τους τελευταίους μήνες- και που ορισμένα έχουν κρατήσει
για χρόνια- ζητάμε από όλα μας να αναλάβουμε τις ευθύνες μας και να υποστηρίξουμε
αυτή τη (μακροπρόθεσμη και μη γραμμική) διαδικασία αναγνώρισης, αναστοχασμού
και μάθησης από τους τρόπους με τους οποίους προκαλέσαμε και συμβάλαμε στη βία
και τη βλάβη και το πλήγωμα, ενώ παράλληλα καλούμε σε συλλογική και ατομική
αυτοευθύνη, για να προχωρήσουμε προς την επούλωση και τη μεταμόρφωση.
Είμαστε ανοιχτά σε όλα τα σχόλιά, τις φιλικές διορθώσεις και τα αιτήματά σας- και
ελπίζουμε ιδιαίτερα ότι αυτή η διαδικασία και τα κείμενα δηλώσεων θα φτάσουν σε
όσα άτομα υπέστησαν βλάβη και πληγώθηκαν στον χώρο και δεν μπόρεσαν ή
επέλεξαν να μην συμμετάσχουν στη διαδικασία μέχρι τώρα, και ότι αυτό θα τα
